MEMO
FROM KEVIN DELL 21 JANUARY 2009
The local
organising committee are now getting down to the detail of the reunion
and need quite a bit of information (and, if you haven’t paid the meal
invoice, - money) from you. Please do not ignore this memo. Your
response to it will help ensure a memorable weekend.
The memo will also give you an idea of the agenda for the
weekend. The agenda will be finalised, following your responses, at the
local organising committee’s next meeting on Sunday 1 February 2009.
1.
Meal Money
Meals are not provided by Borland Lodge. The local
organising committee has to provide food and, in respect of the Saturday
evening meal, catering. We can do this but will shortly have to pay for
the food. Thus, we need those of you who have not yet paid your $110.00
per person for food to let us have that amount as soon as possible.
Allan has indicated we need it by 25 January 2009. As that is only a
few days away we could wait until 29 January 2009 but if we do not have
payments in by the time of our next meeting, which is 1 February 2009 we
will be in some difficulty. So please make payment of this as Allan has
suggested either direct to Kevin Dell, PO Box 1207, Invercargill or
National Bank Account 060925 0404488 00 identifying your name and the
deposit.
As you read this memo you will see that there are other
payments to be made some of which are optional.
2.
Place and Time of Arrival
The first function is at the Kelvin Hotel in Invercargill at
2pm on Friday 27 February 2008 for a “break the ice” drink and snack.
We will leave the Kelvin Hotel at 3pm to go to Tuatapere.
We understand that some people may be coming in through
Queenstown and travelling direct to Borland Lodge from there.
We need to know the place and time of your arrival so that
we can arrange catering at the Kelvin Hotel. There will be a cost of
$8.00 per head for catering and that will be payable by you at the
Kelvin Hotel.
We particularly need to know the time of your arrival if you
are coming to Invercargill and require to be picked up at the airport.
Please let us know the place and time of your arrival.
3.
Waiau Hotel Tuatapere
The coach which leaves Invercargill at 3pm from the Kelvin
Hotel will arrive at the Waiau Hotel, Tuatapere at approximately 4.30pm
for drinks and an evening meal at 5.30pm. The cost of this evening meal
is $20.00 per head and is payable by you to the Waiau Hotel. The coach
will leave the Waiau Hotel at approximately 6.45pm for Borland Lodge and
arrive at Borland Lodge at 8pm where the Manager of the Lodge will
explain about the facilities and other matters.
We need to know if you are not planning to be at the Waiau
Hotel at approximately 4.30pm. This is for catering purposes. So if
you are arriving at Queenstown or even at Invercargill and travelling
other than by coach, please let us know if you are not going to be at
the Waiau Hotel, Tuatapere.
There will be no meal provided at Borland Lodge on the
Friday night.

Saturday 28 February 2009
Breakfast will be available between 7.30am and 8.30am. The
local organising committee will have arranged the food but we will have
to prepare it ourselves. We have not yet decided whether to have a
“team” preparing breakfast or whether it is just something you can do
for ourselves as we arrive for breakfast.
Heather Nicholson (Bob McLean’s partner) is organising a day
trip for the ladies leaving Borland Lodge by coach at 9.30am. The
details are not yet finalised but we will be in a position to tell you
about that shortly. It will likely include some shopping in Te Anau and
a trip to the Glow-worm caves. We would like a preliminary indication
from you as to whether your wife / partner would want to go on such a
trip. There will be costs associated with this such as for tickets and
for meals during the day which will be payable by you.
The men will remain at Borland Lodge reminiscing and taking
part in some activities which the organising committee will arrange.
There will be a light lunch provided at Borland Lodge and that is
included in the $110.00 meal money.
On the Saturday evening there will be a catered dinner at
Borland Lodge for both men and women and it is also included in the
$110.00 per person meal money.
5.
Sunday Activities
There will be a brief open air (weather permitting) church
service at 7.30am.
The breakfast arrangements are the same as for Saturday
except that they will between 8am and 9am.
At 9.30am a coach will leave Borland for Manapouri for a
boat trip to the West Arm of the lake and the Power Station where we
will be allowed to visit. The cost of the boat trip is $63.00 per
person and lunch is an extra $14.50 per person. That is a total of
$77.00 per person. This is an optional trip. You may prefer to make
your own arrangements for the Sunday.
In any event whether you go on the coach trip or make your
own arrangements, we will back at Borland Lodge at 5.30pm for a BBQ
tea. The food for the BBQ is included in the $110.00 per person meal
money.
Please let us know whether you and your wife / partner will
be going on the coach and boat trip to West Arm Power Station. We need
to know this to make the arrangements for the coach and boat.
6.
Monday Activities
Again, it is the same arrangements for breakfast but the
times will be 7.30am to 8.30am.
We will clean up the facilities and pay the Camp Manager for
the facilities. The room accounts are for yourselves and are $110.00
per person for the whole of your stay.
The bus will leave for Invercargill at 9.30am arriving in
Invercargill at 11.30am.
7.
Departure
We understand some people may be leaving on Sunday and those
people will need to pay the Camp Manager before they leave.
Please let us know whether you are leaving early. That
information is helpful to us for our planning.
Please note in respect of payment to the lodge there is no
Eftpos. Payment can be by way of cash, cheque or credit card.
8.
Alcohol
Alcohol is permitted at Borland Lodge and the organising
committee will arrange beers and wine for purchase by you.
If you want to bring other alcohol such as spirits, then
please bring your own.
9.
Accommodation Requirements
Please let us know if you have any special requirements for
accommodation. If you do it may not be possible to accommodate you at
Borland Lodge but there are some motels nearby which again would be at
your own cost.
10.
Medical
Please let us know of any medical conditions that we need
to be aware of in the event of an emergency.
11.
Spouse / Partners Name
For the purposes of name tags, please let us have your
spouse / partner's name.
Attached to this memo is a response form.
Please help us by completing it and returning it immediately by either
fax to 03 2144122, or email to Kevin.dell@awslegal.com or by
post to Kevin Dell, PO Box 1207, Invercargill 9840 by 29 January 2009.
We are sending this memo to everybody even though you may
not have registered. It is not too late to register, we can still
accommodate a few more if you let us know by return. But after our next
meeting on 1 February 2009, there will be difficulties involved in
registering you.
The local organising committee are looking forward to a
very memorable weekend. We are grateful to Allan Campbell and Jim Hair
for starting this off and for all the work they have done. It is likely
that this reunion will be a one off opportunity for us all to meet again
after so many years. It will be a unique event. The local organising
committee has got a lot of enjoyment out of meeting with one another
when some of us have not seen one another for a number of years. We are
sure that the experience of this reunion will not only be nostalgic but
rewarding. We are fortunate to have an opportunity to meet again. The
reality is that most New Zealanders would not have such an opportunity.
We look forward to meeting you all for a very successful
weekend.
