I
have spent all my working life involved with the
livestock industry. The past 20 odd years I have
run my own business as an independent livestock agent
as well as the 100 odd acres where we live today at
Pahiatua. (a few kms east of Tui Brewery at
Mangatainoka!!)
Joy and I were married in Taihape and have been in
Pahiatua for the past 36 years. We have 2
children, and 1 grandchild, sadly we lost our
son to a car accident, our daughter is the manager of
Budget Rental Cars in Tauranga.
My love of horse has involved me in the racing
industry. We attend quite a few race meetings
all over the country.
Ken was tragically killed in a quadbike accident on
his farm on 29th August 2015.

I
left Marist at the end of 1958 and then boarded at St.
Bede's College in Christchurch 1959 -
1962. On leaving school I joined our
family business (Higgins Earthmoving Co. Ltd) at
Benmore Power Project. We worked at
Benmore, Aviemore, then moved to Twizel in January
1966 where we worked on the Upper Waitaki Power
Development Scheme until its completion in the mid
1980's.
I married Erin Gerrard, in Invercargill in February
1968 and have lived at Twizel ever since until our
shift to Christchurch late November 2007.
We have four sons Richard, Bede, Geoffrey and Chris
who were educated in Twizel, then all boarded at
St. Kevin's College for their secondary
schooling. Both Richard and Bede and their
wives live and work in Dubai, Geoffrey and his wife
live in Taupo and Chris works in Sydney.
We have two grandsons - indeed a huge
shortage of the female species wouldn't you say!!
After completion of the Upper Waitaki we remained
living in Twizel while I commuted down to Central
Otago through the week where we had earth moving
contracts at Clyde Power Project, Cromwell Gorge and
Maniototo Irrigation Scheme during thre mid 1980's.
I continued working with my brothers John, Michael
& Peter until the end of the 80's when we sold our
eathmoving company at the end of the "think big" power
projects. Our only sister Annette is
married and living in Martinborough.
In the late 1980's I became involved in Land
Development in Twizel and in 1993 Erin & I bought
the former staff hostel in the middle of Twizel and
turned it into the 'High Country Holiday
Lodge' We built a tavern on our
property called 'Top Hut' which we leased out but
still continued to run the Lodge ourselves.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our life in Twizel and have
just recently sold our Lodge in October 2007 after
having prostate surgery in June
2007. I now have some medical problems
which will involve further surgery some time next
year. However, Erin and I have had good
health over the years and with our positive attitude
we intend to enjoy good health again in the future.

Living
in Christchurch. In my case I have had an enjoyable
life to date and a number of good and bad milestones
have been recorded along the way; including most half
days absent in any school term - most strokes of the
cane in a period - day and school term - retiring from
school at the earliest age - most jobs in a seven year
period after leaving school - the odd swimming record
- basketball representation - 22 year career in the
New Zealand Army with world wide travel - coaching
B'Ball in many countries - hotel ownership - many
women - many children - real estate - finance broker -
immigration consultant you name it I have done it and
the journey continues I hope for many years to come.

I
left school at the end of 1959 and completed a
painting and decorating apprenticeship. I then spent 4
years as a painter and decorator and casing machinist
at Makarewa Freezing Works.
I married Christine Mary Batt in 1969. We were married
for 35 years and had one son and three daughters. They
have given us 6 grandchildren. Sadly, Christine passed
away in 2005 due to cancer.
I was an instructor of painting and decorating at the
Invercargill Borstal for 7 years. Over the next 20 odd
years I did a variety of jobs including a Metal
Products Operator, stevedoring and an operator and
lines service and carbon rodding either at Bluff or
Tiwai Point. In 2000 I returned to painting and
decorating before spending over two years nursing
Christine. In 2005 I was forced into early retirement
due to ill health. I am still living in Invercargill
Tony passed away on 28 December 2015 after a long
battle with cancer.

Living
in Invercargill. When I left school I started work as
an apprentice carpenter. When completed, I worked for
various large building firms including Downers, who
were working on the smelter at Tiwai Point, and
Tyleman, an Aussie firm where I worked on the
chimney stack at the smelter. I left the building
industry and started working for NZAS in 1972
where I remained for 30yrs. I went back to the
trade and worked for myself for 5yrs until I retired
at the beginning of this year. I married Diane
and had 4 children and now have 12 grandchildren. We
celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in May next
year.
